Choose Perfect Wedding Theme

Rustic, nautical, traditional weddings—you've probably come across several wedding themes during your search for inspiration or while attending weddings. But have you thought about what goes behind each theme? A wedding theme should be more than just looks or trends. Above all, it should reflect your personality as a couple. It should also tie every element of your wedding, from the venue to the smallest details, together in harmony.

If you haven't decided on a wedding theme yet, close your eyes and picture your wedding day. What does it look like? How do your guests feel when they walk in? What kind of impression do you want to convey? To help you imagine your dream wedding, try asking these questions to yourself and your partner:

  1. Where was your first meeting or first date?
  2. How and where did he propose?
  3. Do you have any favorite cities or countries you'd love to visit or have visited together?
  4. How do you usually spend time with each other?
  5. What kind of activities do you both love doing together?
  6. What is your dream wedding like? Romantic? Modern? Homey? Sophisticated?
  7. Look into both of your closets. What is your fashion sense like? Is it sporty? Casual? Preppy? Elegant?
  8. What kind of decoration do you have at home?
  9. Do you have a favorite flower that has special meaning in your relationship?
  10. Is there anything particular that you “need” to have in your wedding?
  11. What are your favorite things? (Food, Songs, Movies, Drinks, Art, etc.)
  12. Are there any special catchphrases you've invented during the course of the relationship?
  13. Is there anything in particular that defines your relationship? Perhaps a shared occupation or a love of art?

Answering these questions will guide you and your partner in choosing a wedding that truly represents your unique bond. For instance, if you're both laid-back and prefer not to have a glamorous reception, you could host a casual pot-luck party in your backyard. Or, if you're avid travelers, consider a travel-themed wedding to showcase your shared love of adventure.
