Wedding During COVID-19

Planning your big day takes a lot of thinking, no matter the date you choose. But if your wedding happens to fall in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, you might be wondering how to plan for the potential impacts on your celebration. The reality is, any wedding in 2020 will look different, whether it's a smaller event now or a larger celebration later when things improve.

Here are some guidelines to help you prepare and plan accordingly:

Guidelines for Hosts

  • Marriages can be held with fewer guests and more intimacy.
  • The event must be conducted in a public place with good natural ventilation. Weddings should not be conducted in air-conditioned halls.
  • Sanitizers must be provided at the entrance and other appropriate places.
  • Washrooms should have soap and water for guests to wash their hands.
  • The venue must be clean and hygienic.
  • Fewer self-serve buffets and more plated services.
  • Carefully consider the food presentation and menu.
  • Virtual streaming of the wedding for guests aged 65 years and above.
  • Design the dance floor and wedding entertainment stage to ensure social distancing.
  • Creative seating arrangements according to social distancing guidelines.
  • Hire a planner to oversee all arrangements and coordination at the venue.
  • A list of all attendees, including their contact details, must be maintained.
  • Spitting is prohibited in all public places.
  • All guests must have their temperature taken with a thermal scanner before entering the venue.
  • Consumption of liquor, tobacco, gutka, and paan is not allowed.

Guidelines for Guests

  • All guests must install the Aarogya Setu app and have their Bluetooth on.
  • People from containment areas cannot attend the event.
  • Guests may get travel passes to attend the wedding from local authorities.
  • People above the age of 65 years, children below the age of 10 years, and pregnant women will not be allowed to attend the event.
  • Any guest with a fever above 99.5˚F (37.5˚C), cough, cold, or difficulty breathing will not be permitted to attend the wedding.
  • Everyone involved in the wedding must wear a face mask.
  • A physical distance of at least 1 meter should be maintained between individuals.

By following these guidelines and staying in touch with your vendors and guests, you can help ensure a safe and memorable celebration despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
